Gearbox Repairs & Overhauls
Your gearbox is one of the hardest working components in your vehicle, transferring power from the engine to the wheels and ensuring smooth gear changes every time you drive. When problems begin to develop, you may notice grinding or whining noises, gears slipping, difficulty selecting gears or even the gearbox popping out of gear unexpectedly. At Down South Car Repairs, we provide expert gearbox repairs and overhauls in Lonsdale to restore performance and reliability. Manual and automatic gearboxes face different challenges, with common issues in manuals including worn synchros, bearings and seals, while automatic transmissions may suffer from solenoid faults, valve body wear or fluid contamination. Our experienced mechanics use modern diagnostic tools combined with years of hands-on knowledge to pinpoint the cause of the issue quickly and accurately. We take a methodical approach, beginning with a road test to confirm the symptoms before inspecting mounts, linkages and gearbox oil condition to determine whether the fault is due to internal wear or an external issue that can be resolved without a full overhaul. This thorough process ensures you only pay for the repairs that are truly needed. When a rebuild is required, we strip the gearbox down, replace all worn components and reassemble it to meet manufacturer specifications, giving you the confidence of a long-lasting repair. By choosing us for gearbox repairs and overhauls, you can trust that every job is carried out with care, transparency and restoring your vehicle to full reliability.
